Dave Bedford, Legendary British Runner, Passes Away at 63

Beloved Husband and Record-Breaker Mourned

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Bedford, known affectionately as WEB, on August 17th, 2023. He was 63 years old and leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a runner, coach, and administrator.

Bedford rose to fame in the 1970s, becoming a national hero when he broke the 10,000-meter record in 1973. His time of 27:30.8 remained the British record for nearly 30 years. Along with his exceptional running achievements, Bedford was also known for his innovative coaching methods and his contributions to the London Marathon.

The running community has been deeply affected by Bedford's untimely passing. Dave Bedfords, a 50-year-old championships record, held the world age 17 record for a time. In 2013, he was celebrated by 39000 cheering runners at the London Marathon. Bedford's impact on the sport of running will be felt for generations to come.
